Five tips to destress before and during finals at UW-Green Bay
By Madeline Fischer, UW-Green Bay Senior Psychology Major, Human Development Minor
With finals approaching quickly, consider incorporating some of these tips to destress during your finals week…
1.) Connect to yourself in the Contemplative Practices Room
Found in Wood Hall 441, this space is reserved for contemplative that can be used for yoga, meditation, etc. This can help you to relax while developing a deeper connection between our mind and body.
2.) Soak up sunshine and nature in the Cofrin Arboretum
I personally love running and walking the trails of the Cofrin Arboretum when I’m looking to destress or spend some time outside. You can bike as well! The trails extend over six miles and you can start and end in many different places throughout the campus. Nature is an awesome tool for stress-reduction!
3.) Visit the Kress Events Center
To me, there is nothing better than getting a good workout in when I have a lot on my plate! I find that after I finish a workout (lifting weights, cardio, shooting hoops, etc.), I can focus more efficiently on my school work and get a better night sleep.
4.) Change your scenery with Common Grounds
Located in the University Union, the Common Grounds Coffee Shop is a cozy getaway spot to socialize with friends, listen to live music or just enjoy the relaxed environment. Plus, I’m a better me when I’ve got my coffee fix!
5.) Enjoy some great programming aimed to support you
With the end of the semester approaching, there are some great programs for students to attend to destress, relax and have fun!
Check out the following events:
Relaxation Program — Tuesday, May 7, 1 to 5 p.m., Phoenix Room C, University Union: Enjoy an oxygen bar, foot massagers, spinal exercisers, or massage chairs. Sponsored by Student Life and the Student Government Association

Late Night Breakfast — Monday, May 13, 10 p.m., Cloud Commons, University Union: Unwind before final exams begin with a free meal in the Cloud Commons. The menu theme is cereal, but there is going to be much more than just cereal offered. Enjoy scrambled eggs, sausage links, donuts, Fruit Loops® French toast, Lucky Charms© milk shakes and more.
Good luck on finals, Phoenix! You have got this!
