UW-Green Bay students face a difficult learning transition for their Fall 2020 semester, amidst the world-wide pandemic, COVID-19. While our faculty, staff and leadership are working their hardest to maintain a safe environment on campus, there are precautions everyone must follow to ensure their safety is maintained. Wearing a mask is important, and so is keeping them clean! Healthy Choices Task Force shared some guidelines about best practices with masks by comparing it to something most of us are familiar with… underwear!

  1. Do NOT Share it — Your mask belongs to you, therefore, the only face it should be covering is your own.

2. Change it Daily — The inside of your mask is a bacteria hotspot, so if you want to stay healthy and prevent “maskne” make sure to change it up daily. Make a fashion statement or change up the pattern on your mask!

3. Do NOT Touch or Adjust (Especially in Public) — The purpose of face coverings is to minimize the spread of germs. Touching your mask and then using your hands right after defeats that purpose. Mask adjustments can wait until you are distanced and not in a public area.

4. If it’s Stained, Throw it Away! — This one is pretty self-explanatory…

5. Do NOT Borrow or Lend it — Your mask should stick to being on your face and no one else's. After all, you wouldn’t share your underwear with others, would you?

6. Wear it Right Side Out — Your mask will not be very helpful if the filter is facing outward. On the contrary, if you use both sides of a cloth mask you are breathing in countless germs every time you reverse it.

7. Make Sure it Fits Snug, but Not Too Tight — Having a mask that is “too tight” is point blank, very painful! Save yourself the headache and get a properly fitting one.

8. If There are Holes in it, Throw it Away — Once again, pretty self-explanatory. You know what to do!

9. If it’s Damp, Change it — Not only is a damp mask uncomfortable to wear, but it isn’t properly doing its job because there is poor filtration.

10. Make Sure it’s Clean — Wash your masks on weekly to ensure that they are as clean as they could possibly be!
